Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has assured the Republic of Cuba of Federal Government’s willingness to collaborate with the country in the production of COVID-19 vaccines.

He stated this when the Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Clara Pulido-Escandell visited him yesterday in Abuja.
Onu commended the Cuban government for its various interventions in the health sector, especially during the outbreak of the Ebola virus in Nigeria.

“Nigeria used to produce a vaccine in the past, as the country is gradually moving into medium-income economy by classification, we need to produce our indigenous vaccines,” he said.

Responding, Pulido-Escandell said, she visited the ministry to learn and share experiences in the areas of indigenous discoveries and innovation to assist in building capacity of scientists.

She disclosed that Cuba had already created capacity for the production of over 100 million coronavirus vaccines for 11.4 million people before the end of 2021.
