As part of efforts to advance Nigeria’s technology ecosystem, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, has announced the establishment of an advisory committee for the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative.

According to the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, via his X handle, yesterday, the committee would be chaired by the Senior Director of Developer Success at Okta, Emeka Afigbo.

Other members of the panel include the founder of Future Africa and co-founder of Andela and Flutterwave, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji; ex-CPO, Typeform, Calendly, Twitter, Oji Udezue; GTM Acceleration Lead – EMEA, AWS, Joy Omoregie; CEO, PremiaBN, Bola Lawal, and CEO, Outsource Global, Amal Hassan.

Tijani explained that the committee was raised to offer oversight and guidance for the successful implementation of the 3MTT programme.

As chairman of the committee, Afigbo, with a developer background at Meta and Google, is to bring his expertise in building developer ecosystems across Africa to the initiative.

Aboyeji, with his deep insights into Africa’s startup ecosystem and investment industry, is to bring to bear this expertise on the programme and impact the fellows.

Bukola brings experience in edtech, which aligns with 3MTT’s mission to scale up tech education across the continent.

Udezue, who is a former chief product officer at Typeform, Calendly, and Twitter, will be expected to use his expertise in product management to help shape the programme’s structure and outreach.

Omoregie brings to the committee a strong understanding of go-to-market strategies essential for digital transformation in emerging markets.

Lawal, with a background in digital finance and business development, provides insights into aligning training with market needs.

On his part, Hassan, a leader in the outsourcing sector, brings experience in job creation and talent development, particularly within Nigeria.

Providing further insight, Tijani said the 3MTT programme is a critical part of the Renewed Hope agenda and is aimed at building Nigeria’s technical talent backbone to power its digital economy and position it as a net talent exporter.

The programme started with 30,000 Nigerians, representing one per cent of the three million target, while the 270,000 selected for the second cohort bring the number to 10 per cent.
