The Federal Capital Territory Administration Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) has received approval from the Minister of FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, to understudy the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA).

This is contained in a statement issued by FHIS Public Relations Officer, Mr. David Barau, on Thursday in Abuja.

The initiative aims to improve service delivery at FHIS by learning from ASHIA, which is widely regarded as one of the top-performing health insurance agencies in Nigeria.

Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), encouraged FHIS staff to make the most of the opportunity.

She said the delegation, led by Acting Director Dr. Salamatu Belgore, would observe ASHIA’s operations for the next four days.

The statement said that Belgore emphasized that FHIS aimed to replicate or enhance ASHIA’s best practices.

The statement also quoted ASHIA’s Managing Director, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, who welcomed the delegation and shared insights into ASHIA’s success.

He highlighted its ability to operate without Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and its growing beneficiary enrollment.

Onyemaechi further emphasized that ASHIA had successfully enrolled more than 200,000 beneficiaries, showcasing the model’s effectiveness and scalability.

Onyemaechi said that the delegation’s visit was the 14th of its kind and that ASHIA’s model was now being closely studied by the FCT to improve its own health insurance system.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the tour will include facility visits, operational briefings, and hospital tours.
