A major political realignment has taken place in Adamawa State as Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was officially received into the All Progressives Congress, alongside several former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The unity meeting, which held yesterday in Yola, came four days after the governor announced his defection, and drew party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Fintiri called for unity among members, urging both old and new entrants to work together in strengthening the party’s structure statewide.
“We must put aside our differences and work as one united family to move Adamawa State forward and to ensure the return of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he said.
Addressing supporters at a reception in Yola, Fintiri repeatedly referred to himself as the leader, saying at one point, “as leader of the party, I will ensure that we work together in unity.”
The governor assured supporters that the merger signifies a total alignment of structures, declaring that the PDP in the state has effectively fused with the APC to advance development objectives.
Earlier, National Vice Chairman of the APC Northeast Zone, Mustapha Salihu, formally welcomed the governor and his supporters into the party.
He said: “Today marks a turning point. We receive Governor Fintiri and his supporters with open arms. Together, we will build a stronger and more united APC,” he said.
The State APC Chairman, Idris Shuaibu, also described the development as a milestone that would consolidate the party’s dominance in Adamawa.
“This unity meeting shows that APC remains the party to beat. We are stronger and more prepared for future victories,” he stated.
Minister of Livestock Development, Mukhtar Maiha, described the fusion as a good omen for Adamawa State and the country at large.
“This coming together is not just political; it is developmental. It signals progress, stability, and renewed hope for our people,” he noted.
Political observers say the development could significantly reshape party dynamics in the Northeast region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The unity meeting ended with renewed pledges of loyalty to the APC leadership and calls for sustained collaboration to achieve both state and national objectives.
