A financial company, Alpha Morgan Capital, has re-modeled the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Main Library Lobby and Makerspace. The restructuring project is the first time the university library will be remodelled in 58 years.

Speaking at the occasion, the Group Managing Director, Alpha Morgan, Ade Buriamo, said the library is the heartbeat of the university, noting that the standard of the university is dependent on the strength of the library.

According to him, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, was the one that inspired the project during the remodeling of Prof. Adetokunbo Sofoluwe Park.

He said the former VC told him the university library has been on over 58 years and needs remodeling.
“Ogundipe ask me if I can do it and I responded to him that, yes I will do it. And now we are here today to commission the project.”

He added that the university has a way of reasoning, appointing and selecting passionate leaders.  He said when he met the current vice chancellor, Professor Folashade Ogunsola, “I saw a very passionate person and I informed her about what the last VC told us to do, and we will do it.”

He congratulated the university for the completion of the library, assuring the university of continuous support toward any projects and initiatives that will encourage academic excellence.

On her part, Ogunsola said the discussion around the project started before she came in.

“Our students don’t like un-beautify spaces or dark spots to read, which is why we discussed that we needed a learning space where the students can feel comfortable to read and relax their brains.

“One of our ambitions is to continue engagement between industries and the university.”  The school librarian, Professor Yetunde Zaid said the remodeled Library has added more uniqueness to the university. She appreciated the GMD of Alpha Morgan for the firm’s commitment throughout the project.
