The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, narrowly escaped death in a boat mishap that claimed five lives along the Bennett Island River in Warri South-West Local Council of Delta State.

The tragic incident occurred over the weekend as Guwor travelled to Asaba via Warri after a constituency engagement on Friday afternoon. The boat he was aboard almost collided with another vessel, leading to the loss of five lives and injuries to several others.

In a statement, Guwor expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. “My heart goes out to the families of the deceased, and I pray that God grants them the strength to bear these irreparable losses.

I’m still in shock over the incident and can only imagine the pain and grief that the families of the victims must be going through,” he said. He thanked God for sparing his life and praised the swift response of rescue teams and medical personnel who attended to the survivors.

The Speaker called on relevant authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
