No fewer than five people were killed, while several got injured in a bloody clash between herders and farmers in Guri Local Council of Jigawa State.
The Guardian gathered that dozens were injured in the fracas, which was allegedly triggered by a minor disagreement on a market day last Thursday.
According to an eyewitness account, the melee on the weekly market led to the death of one person, which subsequently led to reprisal attacks by contending groups in several hamlets where they dominated.
It was learnt that Guri, Kirikasamma and Birniwa Councils have since been identified as trouble and volatile zones, where farmers and herders frequently engaged in killings at the slightest provocation.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson for Jigawa State police command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lawan Shisu Adam, said Fulani herders and farmers clashed at Magirami forest in Guri Local Council, adding that a team of police officers led by DPO Guri had visited the scene.
He said two people were killed in the incident, while five others, who sustained injuries, were rushed to Hadejia General Hospital for treatment.
The PRO said one person has been arrested in connection with the incident, while the state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Saleh Tafida and other top-ranking officers have visited the scene.
