Flood submerges five communities in Ebonyi
Farms in some communities in Ivo Local Council of Ebonyi State have been washed away by flood, the state government has said. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr., Emmanuel Anya, made this known in a statement yesterday.
Anya said the flood was caused by the blockade of a dam being constructed by the Federal Government in Npu, Anuri local council of Enugu State.
Affected communities, according to Anya, include Ameke, Okue, Amaokewe and Ngwogwo. The governor ordered a comprehensive report of farms and cash crops destroyed by the flood.
“We came to the point of the Ukeh River Dam that is being constructed by the Federal Government in Npu, Anuri Local Council, Enugu state. A comprehensive report will be carried out so that we can seek government’s assistance, not only to the state but to the farmers whose agricultural produce have been seriously damaged,” he said.
Anya quoted the governor as saying a report of the damage will be sent to the Federal Government so the state and farmers whose means of livelihood were affected can get some relief.
