Governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Sen. Teslim Folarin, has assured citizens of Oyo that his administration will tackle the poor security situation.

According to Folarin’s ‘Itesiwaju Ipinle Oyo Blueprint’, the insecurity in Oyo has shamefully degraded from a mountaintop of excellence during the days of ‘Operation Burst’ to a despicable gutter of security deterioration.

Folarin said the situation was such that Oyo residents now live in palpable fear and tension.

His words: “The reality of incessant armed robbery, inter-street clashes, brigandage of Oyo park managers, banditry, burglary, cult rivalry and other social vices, have become daily occurrences. The unfortunate aspect is that the present government has demonstrated lack of capacity to arrest the situation. The summary of it all is that Oyo is in a state of security breakdown, therefore requiring urgent rescue.”

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content, therefore, said his mission was to make Oyo safe for life, property and businesses, overhaul the security architecture, effectively coordinate all security agencies, re-invigorate the Security Trust Fund for improved resource intervention, provide adequate security for local and foreign businesses without fear of investment losses and to set up Oyo State Neighbourhood Watch that comprises Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and Community Development Associations (CDAs) as local security architecture.

He also promised to intensify security patrol and counter-security measure, deployment of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in strategic locations for crime prevention and control, strengthen, empower, equip and motivate South West Security Network (Amotekun) towards effective operation and to ensure data capture of every Oyo resident, leading to ‘Operation Know Your Neighbour’.
