Form your cabinet without further delay, Williams urges Obaseki

To facilitate government policies and accelerate development of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki must appoint members of his cabinet urgently.
A renowned scholar and author, Prof. Adebayo Williams, handed Obaseki this piece of advice yesterday in Lagos at a colloquium with the theme: ‘Tracking Governor Obaseki’s 100 days in office’ organised by the Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa (CGGEJA).
He commended the strides made by Obaseki since taking over the government in Edo but added that to help facilitate the good work he has started in the state, he (Obaseki) should appoint a cabinet on time.
“It is a matter of necessity and urgency to put in place a cabinet to facilitate his policies,” he said.
He lauded Obaseki’s achievements in his first 100 days in office and added: “He had hit the ground running. With the pace he is moving, Edo will soon become one of the economic and industrial hubs of the country.”
Williams, who was chairman at the occasion, however, frowned at what he observed as delay by the governor in appointing his commissioners and urging him to do so without further delay.
According to him, part of fulfilling one’s campaign promises is to constitute a cabinet, as no one is an island, a reservoir of knowledge or wisdom.
“I have reservation about governments making promises without fulfilling them. There is no way an individual can do it. Getting a cabinet is a way to fulfilling promises made to the people. Those who refuse to constitute their cabinets are only engaging in executive tyranny, which has no place in a democracy,” he stressed.
