Four brides drown in Kebbi river, one week to wedding

Tragedy struck again in Kebbi State as another four girls preparing for their wedding ceremonies next week have reportedly drown in a river at Damana village of Birnin-Kebbi Council.

Confirming the incident to newsmen yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, Chairman of the state Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Sani Dododo, said the victims were making attempt to cross a river in the village on bare foot, following wrong portion of the river, which was very deep, on their way to Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

Dododo explained three of the girls were preparing for their marriages next week, while the fourth was a married woman, adding that their bodies had been rescued by the SEMA.

He gave the names of the victims as Sheahu Ige, Zainab Umar Malami, Maliya Umar Maikarti, and Suwaiba Umar Danbadi.
