Four policemen attached to the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), were last Wednesday attacked by armed thugs at the Ogoja Town in Cross Rivers State, when they attempted to recover a Toyota Sienna space-bus from a notorious car receiver. The attack left them with severe machete injuries.
It was gathered that the operatives who were deployed from the Lagos annex office of the IRT to Cross Rivers, to track and recover the vehicle belonging to Master Chapel, a church based in Lagos, were attacked when they attempted to recover the vehicle from the receiver, who was identified as Ikenga.
It was learnt that the vehicle, which was robbed at gunpoint by a four man gang of armed robbers, identified simply as Peter, Ben, Ebuka and Johnson, on November 8, 2018, was taken to Benue State and sold to Ikenga, for the sum of N250,000.
Sources disclosed that after the IRT operatives got reports of the robbery, they commenced investigations and arrested the four suspects, who confessed to the theft, including several others and one of them led the operatives to Benue, where the vehicle was sold and on investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle has been moved to Ogoja Town in Cross River, by Ikenga.
The Guardian gathered further that the operatives, on arriving Ogoja, made their presence known to the Ogoja Police Division and the Area Command, but on arriving the location where Ikenga was with the vehicle, they were attacked by thugs who were armed with cutlasses and other dangerous objects.
A source explained that the operatives weren’t expecting Ikenga and the thugs around him to be hostile towards them because they came peacefully and identified themselves to him, adding that the operatives could not use their fire arms as they were being attacked and inflicted with machete wounds because they don’t want a twist to the incident if any member of the thug was killed in the melee.
Meanwhile, help came the way of the operatives who managed to escape to the Ogoja police division and they were all rushed to Markurdi General Hospital, while Ikenga escaped with the robbed Sienna vehicle.

Three of the operatives have been discharge, but one of them, identified as Julius, is still receiving treatment at the hospital in Markudi.
