Funeral rites for first professor of medicine, Ogunlesi, begin today
Family of Theophilus Oladipo Ogunlesi, Nigeria’s first Professor of Medicine, has announced his funeral programme.
Emeritus Professor Ogunlesi, originally from the Sagamu region of Ogun State, passed away on January 19, 2023. He was 99 years old.
In 1965, he became the nation’s first Professor of Medicine, cementing his place in the annals of medical education.
According to a statement signed by Adeleke Ogunlesi, the funeral services will begin with a ceremony in the Old Great Hall of the College of Medicine at the University of Lagos in Idi-Araba, Lagos, today (Tuesday).
Tomorrow, there will be lying in state at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan and main foyer of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, followed by a Christian wake the next day at Igbobi Makun, Sagamu, Ogun State.
Funeral service is on Friday, April 14, at Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Igbogun Street, Sagamu.
