‘Funmi died while trying to rescue friend’

beachThe late Funmi Odusina, who got drowned in the Elegushi Beach last Saturday in Lagos, was said to have died trying to rescue one of her bosom friends, her cousin, Bukola Odunsi, disclosed to newsmen yesterday.

Miss Odunsi, while narrating the circumstances that let to her cousin’s early death, said: “On that fateful day, my parents and I were at home when we received a phone call from her boss that someone called him from Island General Hospital that she was rushed to the emergency unit of the hospital.

“Immediately my elder sister received the call, she in turn called someone at her hostel in the University of Lagos (UNILAG), who later confirmed the incident. That was how we dashed to the hospital only to be told that she had died and they have deposited her remains in the hospital mortuary.”

Bukola added that the management of the hospital allowed them to see her remains in the mortuary. Bursting into tears, the lady described the death as ‘painful’.

Her words: “Since the incident, our parents have not been stable because the deceased is a brilliant student. She graduated from Covenant University two years ago with a good grade. We are going to missed her so much.”

When newsmen visited the Faculty of Law, some of their colleagues were seen wearing black attire mourning their loved ones. One of her colleagues, who does not want her name in print, said, “we were supposed to writing our post-graduate examination, but they are no more.

Another student who simply identified herself as Gbemi, said, “I was supposed to go with them to the beach for the celebration, but because of the examination, I decided to stay back. We are mourning them, because whatever happened to our colleagues happened to every one of us. We persuaded the management to postpone the exam but they refused. We miss them and their death is a great loss to us and their family members.”
