GAC leaders back Abiru for re-election in Lagos East

All Progressives Congress (APC)

Leaders of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos East Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru for another term in the Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced during a meeting held at the residence of Otunba Busura Adedeji Alebiosu, a GAC member and apex leader in Lagos East, where party stakeholders affirmed their confidence in the senator’s performance since assuming office.

The GAC, regarded as the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, commended Abiru for what it described as consistent delivery of democratic dividends.

The council noted that his people-centred approach to governance has contributed to improvements in the quality of life across the district.

Responding to the endorsement, Abiru expressed appreciation to the GAC leadership, describing the gesture as both humbling and motivating.

“I am sincerely grateful for this overwhelming show of confidence by our revered leaders. This endorsement is not only an honour but also a call to serve with even greater dedication, integrity, and purpose,” he said.

The lawmaker stated that his decision to seek re-election is driven by a desire to consolidate existing achievements and expand the scope of inclusive governance and sustainable development initiatives in Lagos East.

Abiru, who has over three decades of experience in the financial sector, including his tenure as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Bank and former Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State, said his approach to public service remains rooted in discipline, transparency, and results-oriented leadership.

Currently serving as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, as well as Chairman of the Southern Senators’ Forum, the senator has sponsored and supported legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economic and financial systems.

In addition to his legislative responsibilities, Abiru has executed constituency projects and interventions across the 98 wards in the 16 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas within Lagos East Senatorial District.

He also appreciated party leaders, stakeholders, and constituents for their continued support, pledging to sustain efforts toward unity, progress, and inclusive development in the district.
