The Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, yesterday, harped on the need for Nigeria to develop more skills and capacity in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), especially from primary to secondary level, if it hopes to compete in the international market.
Gbajabiamila, who spoke while commissioning some ICT projects he donated to public schools in Surulere, said his aims and objectives was to expose the younger generations to Information Technology and to also prepare their minds and mentality towards economic requirements in the global marker.
The Speaker also commissioned roads in Surulere, saying, one of the challenges affecting progress and development of the people is bad and poor road connections.
He said as long as it has become clear that government alone cannot provide everything, “Individuals, whom Good has blessed and who have made fortunes from the resources of the country should endeavour to give back to the society.”
While commissioning Sanya Road in Surulere Constituency 2, the Speaker disclosed that total of 136 roads were constructed but he commissioned only 43.
In Surullere Constituency 2, Baruwa, Oshogbo, Olusesan, Sanya Adetula streets were among the ones commissioned and opened for usage.
Healso unveiled ICT center built for various school in the area. Some of the schools visited were Muritala Ajadi Animashahun Community Senior Grammar situated at Ayantuga Crescent where he unveiled well and standard equipped ICT center.
The Speaker also commissioned ICT projects at Elizabeth Fowler Memorial Nursery and Primary School, Subuola & Methodist Nursery and Primary school, Al- Wajud primary school.
He reconstructed Ansar-Ud- Deen Senior High School and others.
