Globacom added over two million new subscribers in the third quarter of 2021. This was indicated in a new report on the performance of telecoms operators published on the website of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

According to NCC, Globacom added a total of 2,804,450 new subscribers between July and September, which is 86 per cent of the quarter-on-quarter growth recorded in the industry.

This moved its customer base from 50,130,540 at the end of June to 52,934,990 at the end of September 2021.
Airtel, which came second in the report, added 369,842 new subscribers during the quarter, while 9mobile gained only 75,341 customers. However, MTN recorded a decline in its subscriber base, losing 4,266 of its existing subscribers during the period under review.

Globacom, in a statement, also achieved a similar feat in terms of data customers.

It led the growth in the sub-sector by accounting for 68 per cent of the total number of new Internet users during the quarter, which stood at 1,497,139. Its data users, at the end of the third quarter, were 38,902,243 compared to 37,875,966 in the second quarter, an addition of over one million customers.

Airtel was next with 36,706,811 data subscribers, as against 36,235,905 in Q2, which is an increase of 470,906 users. Both MTN and 9mobile recorded losses. While MTN lost 1,182,649 data customers, 9mobile lost 206,768. This brought their data user numbers to 58,412,242 from 59,594,891 and 5,901,383 from 6,108,151 respectively.
