The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, has called on officers to constantly train and upgrade themselves on current security challenges.
He stated this while declaring open the division’s Inter Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition 2022.
Ali said that training is a cardinal pillar of the vision of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), which is, to have “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Mission within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria.”
Nigeria, according to him, is bedevilled by security challenges, which the armed forces have continued to upscale its training and exercises to curb.
The GOC revealed that training is the bedrock of military successes, adding that the competition was aimed at honing the skills and competencies of subalterns of the Nigerian Army, in line with the COAS Training Directive for 2022.
He noted that competitions such as Combat Proficiency were organised to develop the spirit of healthy competition, cooperation and teamwork needed in the accomplishment of military tasks in the field.
Outstanding performance in the competition, he added, will be rewarded.
In his welcome remarks, the Commander, 3 Division Garrison, Brig-Gen. Michael Agi, lauded the GOC for encouraging healthy competition among officers.
He urged the participants to make good use of the week-long competition to develop new combat skills and modern warfare techniques.
