…As Council chairman empowers traders with 100million
Governor Umo Eno has commended the Chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State , Hon. Alfred Charles for his commitment to grassroots economic development of the people through impactful projects that align with his administration’s ARISE Agenda.
The governor gave the commendation during the official commissioning of the constructed Urua Ntakrok model market built by the council chairman which comprises of and 100 million naira Empowerment he gave to127 traders across the Local Government Area to support traders, small business owners, farmers, and young entrepreneurs
The financial assistance is designed to stimulate local businesses, expand economic opportunities, and improve household incomes across the council area.
The Model Urua Ntakrok model market constructed by the Chairman, Hon Alfred Charles comprises: Three blocks of lock up stores that are made up of 36 stores and 378 open partitioned shades, Six Multi Open shades, toilets, generator house , water tank and market offices. Also, 127 benefitted from the 100 million Naira Empowerment for traders.
Governor Eno who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Frank Archibong, stressed that Mr. Alfred Charles has embarked on Human-centered oriented projects and has demonstrate the importance of responsive leadership and the role of local governments in accelerating economic growth across Akwa Ibom State.
Some of the achievements of Honourable Alfred Charles within twenty months as chairman of Nsit Ubium LGA includes: purchase of 2025/26 JAMB/UTME forms for over 500 candidates, procurement of over 175 personal computers , bringing the total to 225 at the Patience Umo Eno ICT centre, installation of 70KW and 30KVA solar power system, and provision of 24hours Internet services at the Pastience Umo Eno ICT centre, Free Medical Outreach programs, programmes Establishment and launching of an Education Trust Fund for outstanding students from Nsit Ubium, Grading of over 30 rural roads across the local government area, distributions of 20,000 educational learning materials to 38primary schools, presentation of Educational grant to the first batch of students in higher institutions under 100milluon Nsit Ubium Education Trust Fund, Employment of 20 casual staffs, strengthening of council secretariat security through partnership with 20 Nigerian Peace Nigerian Peace Corps personnels, enhancement of council safety through the installation of solar-powered streetlights, payment of school fees for numerous indigenes of Nsit Ubium
vocational training for 22 youths and educational assistance for families, securing of the council premises with 1,600 perimeter fencing, to mention a few
The governor described the market as an ‘economic stimulator’, added that the ultra-modern market would stimulate small scale businesses and ensure sustainable economic development within the communities.

Eno urged council chairmen in the state to emulate the steps taken by Mr Alfred Charles, the Chairman, Nsit Ubium Local Government Council.
In the samevien, the Coordinator of the office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, commended the Chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Council, Hon. Alfred Charles, has been applauded , for his commitment to improving the economic well-being of the people through the reconstruction of Urua Ntakrok and the disbursement of a ₦100 million empowerment package to 147 beneficiaries.
Represented by the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Inibehe Silas Etukudo, described the project as a major boost to the local economy, and the women in particularly, expressing her delight at the tremendous landmark achievement recorded in her beloved Local Government Area.
She said the new market would provide a conducive environment for commerce, create sustainable sources of livelihood for women and families, and stimulate economic activities across the area.
Lady Obareki applauded the Council Chairman for surpassing expectations of his administration, assuring him of her continuous support for programmes that promote the welfare and prosperity of the people. She also expressed appreciation to Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno for providing purposeful leadership and creating an enabling environment for development at the grassroots.
She encouraged the Chairman to sustain the pace of development, reminding him that greater responsibilities follow when leaders utilise opportunities provided for service, by delivering tangible results and dividends.
In his remarks, the Nsit Ubium Chairman, Mr. Alfred Charles said he will continue to deliver people-oriented projects to his people, ensure safety of lives and properties, create enabling environment for businesses to thrive and ensuring that residents benefit from the dividends of democracy. He said the market project and business grants were conceived to empower citizens, encourage enterprise, and strengthen the local economy.

Charles stated that 147 residents had benefited from the council’s N100 million empowerment fund for traders.

He added that the market was designed to provide a modern and conducive environment for traders, farmers and small business owners.
