The government at all levels must contribute immensely to the preparation of Nigerian youths for leadership roles by addressing succinctly the issue of mediocrity, loss of value system as well as of absence of good leadership traits.

The advice was given at the 6th edition of Advance Conference by the Convener, Pastor in Charge, Youth Province 1, Lagos, Bisi Akande. The event was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Maranatha Church, Gbagada, Lagos.

Akande stated that the cry of corruption being the cankerworm eating deep into the society’s fabrics is due to loss of value system among other vices.

According to him, the conference was designed for the youths and everyone desirous of being equipped with qualitative leadership skill.

“The greatest challenge we are facing today in Nigeria is erosion of value system. What we actually need today is not the person that would lead the youth but someone who will contribute to nation building by helping in the renewing of their minds and equip them with qualitative leadership traits.”

Akande said that anyone aspiring to play leadership role must believe first of all that leadership begins with him or her, adding that it is only the person who can live well that can lead well.

He explained that for anyone to live well, he or she needs to make a shift from just wanting to do something to a life of intentionality.

He expatiated that life of purpose has to do with one doing something that he or she is competent at doing, being guided by principles, partnering with the right people, and focusing on personal development among others.

One of the facilitators at the programme, President, Maxwell Leadership Enterprises, United States of America, Mark Cole, said that among other things a leader must be committed to understand that failure is not the final, but only a stepping stone.

Also, Assistant Continental Overseer, RCCG, United Kingdom, Sola Oludoyi, said that living and leading well involve striving for personal excellence while positively guiding and influencing others towards excellence.
