The Civic Centre for National Security and Civic Responsibility (CCNSCR) has commended the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for what it described as “notable and encouraging improvements” in security operations across the North Central region.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the group said recent military gains reflect renewed operational coordination and a more proactive approach to tackling insecurity in the region.
According to the statement signed by its Executive Director, Johnson Audu, communities previously affected by banditry and violent attacks are beginning to experience a gradual restoration of order.
The group noted increased troop deployment, improved response to distress calls, and the disruption of criminal networks as key indicators of progress.
It added that sustained offensives targeting criminal enclaves, alongside enhanced surveillance and rapid deployment capabilities, have weakened the operational strength of armed groups.
While acknowledging the improvements, the CCNSCR warned that the gains remain fragile and must be sustained to prevent a relapse into widespread insecurity.
It urged the military to maintain operational momentum and expand ongoing efforts to other affected regions, stressing that consistent presence and engagement are critical to long-term stability.
“These gains, while commendable, remain fragile. It is imperative that the Armed Forces sustain the current operational tempo,” the statement said.
Looking ahead, the group called for heightened vigilance nationwide to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration.
It urged security agencies to intensify deployments and maintain a strong presence across key locations to guarantee public safety during the festive period.
The organisation also emphasised the importance of public cooperation, noting that lasting security cannot be achieved through military efforts alone.
It called on citizens to remain vigilant, share credible intelligence with security agencies, and support ongoing operations through community engagement.
The group further urged community leaders and civil society organisations to promote trust and collaboration between residents and security agencies, describing it as essential to sustaining recent gains.
The CCNSCR reaffirmed its support for the Armed Forces and called for a united national effort to address insecurity.
It said the progress recorded in the North Central region should serve as a foundation for broader stability across the country, provided momentum is maintained and citizen participation strengthened.
