Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Association of Persons Living with Physical Disabilities (NAPWPD), Dare Dairo, has urged the governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to look into the plight of persons living with physical disabilities. Addressing journalists in Lagos, he said Sanwo-Olu should attack poverty among people living with disabilities, and develop enterprise rather than promote charity.

“Towards this, we urge the incoming administration to consider the following: Issue a mandate to the Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation to do an audit of LASODA, including the effectiveness of its working relationship with the ministry of Youth & Social Development. We suggest the removal of LASODA from the ministry to be situated directly under the Governor’s Office. LASODA needs this because its mandate cuts across virtually all ministries.

“Towards making governance more participatory for people living with disabilities and building capacity of disabled people, organizations, government should secure a building for the Joint National Association of People Living with Disabilities (JONAPWD) administrative office, where each disability cluster groups will have their own office, complete with all necessary office equipment that shall be provided and maintained by government.”
