The United Global Resolve For Peace (UGRFP) has petitioned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over alleged police brutality and violation of Ogbaji Obiekezie Onyinye’s fundamental human rights.

Executive Director of UGRFP, Shalom Olaseni in a letter addressed to Executive Secretary of NHRC, Tony Ojukwu in Abuja, said one Prof. Clement Chigbo approached the organisation declaring that the police arrested and molested Onyinye for an offence she never committed.

It said Onyinye travelled to Ahoda, Rivers State on March 23, 2019 in company of Ineh Chukwuemeka and Okoh Richard for business purposes.

“As they were waiting for the release of their goods and being thirsty they decided to go to a nearby hotel to relax briefly, but the police of the Miniokoro Station arrested them for no just cause,” the letter reads.

Olaseni, however, urged Ojukwu to investigate the matter and prosecute the perpetrators for fundamental rights violation.
