Environmental Rights Group has issued seven days ultimatum to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to probe the financial activities of Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) and its General Manager, Dr. Femi Oke Osanyintolu.

The group in a statement issued by its Chairman, Idowu Israel, said there is urgent need to probe LASEMA.

The statement read in parts: “We are making this demand, in furtherance of several calls by well meaning Lagosians, leaders and civil society organisations, on Governor Sanwo-Olu to order an immediate probe into the activities of the agency under Dr. Femi Osanyintolu.

“We are therefore appalled and dumbfounded that the DG, LASEMA singlehandedly misappropriated the fund among many other expenditure of the agency, as prescribed to ensure the workability of the project and instead engaged the services of quack and unqualified contractors to derail the good intention of the state government.”

The group said it has become imperative to react to the continued series of corrupt practices under the stewardship of the Director General of the agency, which includes the diversion of funds meant for revamping the faulty Lagos State Command and Control Centre, the nucleus of information and intelligence gathering in the most digitally developed state in the country.

“We are not unaware that having realised the poor state of the Telecommunication equipment mast that disrupted or terminate calls relayed via emergency toll line 112/767 before reaching the call center for the onward reroute to the control room for pragmatic response to calls and multi-agency coordination, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had approved the sum of N65 million to restore normalcy with a caveat that that LASEMA works with relevant Ministries as soon as possible with a timeline.

“We are therefore appalled and dumbfounded that the DG, LASEMA singlehandedly misappropriated the fund among many other expenditure of the agency, as prescribed to ensure the workability of the project and instead engaged the services of quack and unqualified contractors to derail the good intention of the state government,” the statement read.

The group said on expiration of their demand to the governor, they would mobilise Lagosians, to occupy the agency and by extension, the Governor’s Office, to further press home their demand.
