Igbo United Forum (NUF) has asked South East residents to resist any attempt by officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to remove the standalone meters

Igbo United Forum (NUF) has asked South East residents to resist any attempt by officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to remove the standalone meters in their residences without evidence of immediate replacement.

The group, which met with officials of EEDC at their headquarters in Enugu over the planned migration from smart card to digital metering, accused the electricity distribution company (DisCo) of deliberately “trying to rip the people off by providing insufficient information on the exercise as well as returning them to estimated billings.”

But in a statement yesterday, EEDC explained that the ongoing exercise was necessitated by the integrated system upgrade it embarked upon, following the difficulty in providing support for the card reader system used in vending the meters.
