Group worries over inconclusive #EndSARS panel sitting in FCT
Citizens Gavel has raised concern over the suspension of the #EndSARS Panel of Inquiry for the past four months.
According to the group, the panel, with the mandate to address the grievances of Nigerians, whose rights were violated by the police and the suspended Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) over the years, failed to resolve any matter brought before it.
A statement by the Team Lead, Citizens Gavel, Nelson Olanipekun, said yesterday: “We are concerned that no substantial progress has been recorded in the Abuja panel, despite being situated in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).”
Sequel to establishing the panel, the group noted that its network of observers had monitored panels’ proceedings in 630 cases across 19 states of the federation.
It, however, demanded that the Federal Government should show good faith towards ending police brutality by resolving all issues that led to the suspension of SARS.
