Group, youths lock down Calabar-Itu road
Protetsing members of the Niger Delta Activists Forum (NDAF) and youths of Cross River and Akwa Ibom communities yesterday closed down the deplorable Calabar-Itu federal highway for hours.
The road, which was closed at Okoyong Usangabasi junction in Odukpani Local government area of Cross River State, was to protest the continuous neglect of the road by the Federal Government despite several media reports, warnings, accidents and untold hardships motorists pass through daily.
The closure of the road, which started at about 7.45 am lasted till 11am and even efforts and pressure by some policemen and soldiers to open the road before 11am met with stiff resistance from NDAF and members of the communities saying enough was enough of the untold hardship by commuters and motorists.
The President and National youth leader of the group, Success Jack and Okorie Bernard Oko said despite the previous ultimatum issued to the government, nothing was done. They condemned the lies from Senator Ita Enang on that road that much work has been done whereas nothing was on ground from Ikot Ekpene- Itu-Calabar and called on President Buhari, Babatunde Fashola and Obong Godswill Akpabio to step in and do something urgently.
