Gunmen abduct Babcock varsity’s chief nursing officer
Masked gunmen have abducted a widow and an Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Remo, Mrs. Elizabeth Uruakpa.
Uruakpa, aged 66, was reportedly coming from an evening church service when the gunmen, who had laid ambush, swooped on her at the entrance of her house behind the new Ilisan Market.
The incident has caused panic among her neighbours, as many residents and shop owners quickly shut their doors to avoid being victims. A resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, said: “The woman was coming back from the church around 7.00p.m., when the gunmen abducted her. I know her very well. She’s a Senior Nursing Officer at Babcock University Teaching Hospital and a member of Winners’ Chapel.”
The Director of Communication and Marketing of the university, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, confirmed the worrisome development. Suleiman said: “I heard about it last night in one of the university’s platforms, but I don’t have a comprehensive report. Someone is already working on getting more information about this. As soon as it is ready, I will get across to you. Thanks for reaching out”.
The Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police command, SP Omolola Odutola also confirmed the incident on her X handle Odutola wrote that “On September 5, a distress call was received from Ilishan, near new market at about 17:10hrs, that one Elizabeth Uruakpa was abducted by young armed men who blocked her Honda CRV with their unregistered Red Toyota Camry , and zoomed off with her. Updates later.”
It would be recalled that Prof. Yinka Olomojobi, a lecturer at the university was shot dead by a group of armed kidnappers on Friday, April 19, at Ajadeh Event Centre, Iperu/Sagamu Road, Iperu Remo. Olomojobi, a Professor of hHuman Rights and Gender Law, was reportedly killed by the kidnappers for resisting his abduction.
The kidnappers, according to a statement from the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, reportedly abducted one Dare and another unidentified person during the invasion of the event centre.
