Unknown gunmen have kidnapped the Acting Chief Accountant of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, Ondo State, Mr. Kayode Asaju, while travelling out of the state at the weekend. The Guardian gathered that Asaju was abducted along Lokoja-Abuja Expressway on Sunday evening on his way to Abuja.

A source, who spoke with our correspondent from FMC, disclosed that the victim was on his way to Abuja for a meeting scheduled for yesterday (Monday) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to the source, the suspected kidnappers have contacted the family of Asaju, whose wife is also a nurse at FMC and demanded for a sum of N5 million as ransom.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, while confirming the incident, said it occurred outside the jurisdiction of the Ondo State Command.

Joseph, however, gave an assurance that the command would work with the Kogi State police command to ensure the man is rescued unhurt and reunited with his family.
