Gunmen in the early hours of yesterday, invaded Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) Church, Nuku, at Maigemu District of Jos East Local Council of Plateau State, kidnapping the pastor, Usman Umaru, and two others, including a woman.

The Guardian learnt that efforts by the local security team in the community to save the situation proved abortive as the kidnappers had already escaped with the victims.

Meanwhile, troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have captured the alleged murderer of one Mrs. Dorothy Jonathan in Southern Kaduna area of Kaduna State.

The victim was murdered on Friday, September 1, in cold blood, while fetching firewood at Afana village in Zango Kataf Local Council of the state.

The arrest was in line with OPSH Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar’s resolve to bring perpetrators of crime in Southern Kaduna and environs to justice, following the stakeholders’ engagement on September 10.

The suspect, who confessed to the crime, alongside an accomplice (name withheld) now at large, was arrested through a manhunt launched by troops of OPSH, who acted based on credible intelligence obtained.

A statement, yesterday, by the Military Information Officer (MIO), Captain Oya James, said Dauda narrated that he approached the deceased, while working on a farmland, and wanted to forcefully sleep with her, but the deceased put up a struggle, leading to her gruesome murder.

The statement added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the other accomplice, while the suspect would be charged to court once investigation is completed.
