Gunmen kidnap UNIJOS female professor, husband in Plateau
A professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology, University of Jos, Plateau State, Grace Ayanbimpe, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
It was learnt that the professor and her husband, who reside close to Stanel Oil in Jos North Local Government Area, were kidnapped in the early hours of yesterday and taken away.
A source close to the family disclosed that the incident occurred around 2.00a.m., adding that on arrival at the community, the kidnappers shot sporadically into the air and thereafter moved to the professor’s house.
According to the source: “They broke into their apartment and shot into the air. Neighbours who were terrified by sounds of gunshot could not come out for fear of being hit by stray bullets.
“At daybreak, we discovered that the gunmen had taken the professor and her husband away,” he said.
The spokesman for Plateau State Police Command, ASP Ubah Ogaba, who confirmed the incident, said operatives of the Tactical Unit of the command had commenced investigation and would rescue the professor and her husband.
