ISWAP executes four ‘spy’ fishermen in N’East
Gunmen have killed no fever than 10 persons in Chando Zerreci village, Bassa Local Council of Plateau State.

Nineteen other people reportedly sustained injuries during the attack.

Witnesses, who managed to escape, said the gunmen, who were suspected to be herdsmen, launched the attack during the Irigwe yearly festival called ‘Zerreci’ (to usher in the farming season).

The National Publicity Secretary of Irigwe Youth movement (IYM), Lawrence Zongo, confirmed the attack in a statement, yesterday.

Zongo said: “The national leadership of IYM condemned the attack on the Irigwe people on her yearly ritual.”

The group alleged that herdsmen attacked them last Saturday about 11p.m. at Chando Zerreci in Bassa.

The IYM spokesman added that the 19 people that survived the gunshots were receiving treatment at different hospitals in Jos.

He called on government to come to their rescue.

“The government must, as a matter of urgency, investigate the attacks on Irigwe land and bring the perpetuators to justice, as well as ensure that families and other victims are adequately compensated,” Zongo said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Uba Ogaba, confirmed the attack, yesterday, adding that the police had already mobilised armed officers to the place to restore normalcy.

ALSO, the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) has executed four fishermen suspected to be members of the Civilian JTF on the islands of Lake Chad in the North East.

The victims are identified as Adamu Guga from Doron Baga, Hamisu Dangora from Dabangiwa Dawashi, Ba’ana from Monguno and Jubril from Daban Gajere, all of Kukawa Local Council of Borno State.

A counter-terrorism expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday, in Maiduguri that the victims were executed at Sabon Tumbu for allegedly committing various crimes in the Lake Chad region.

ISWAP judge in Marte, Mohammed Maina, alleged Dangora, a former member of Civilian JTF in Monguno, was executed for extorting from Fulani herdsmen who normally passed through his checkpoint to the ISWAP Doula (caliphate).

Guga reportedly had knowledge of the whereabouts of a large cache of arms that sank in the lake after a military air strike in Kukawa.

Maina added: “Adamu attempted stealing the arms from the caliphate to deliver to the Nigerian military in Baga before he was intercepted by our fighters in the region.

“He lied to us that he was arrested by the Nigerian Army where he served jail terms before he was released. But we believed that he only returned to the Doula as a spy for the government.”

According to him, Ba’ana and two others travelled to Kerenoa village and attempted to destroy an Isuzu vehicle belonging to ISWAP.

“On sighting the ISWAP militants, the two friends quickly ran away, leaving Ba’ana, who was caught in the act,” he added.

The ISWAP judge further disclosed that the four had served a seven-month sentence at the militant detention cell in Jabullam, Marte Local Council, before their execution.
