The Jigawa State Police Command, yesterday, confirmed the killing of two police officers in Taura council after gunmen abducted a son-in-law to a popular Jigawa government contractor, Haruna Maifata.

The incident occurred at Kwalam, one of the populous communities in Taura, where the contractor lives.

The kidnappers abducted Ma’aru Abubakar, the son-in-law to the contractor.

The Police spokesperson in Jigawa, Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident to reporters, assuring that efforts are being intensified to arrest fleeing suspects.

He identified the deceased officers as Assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Anas Usaini, a superintendent of police and Sunusi Alhassan, an inspector.

He said the officers were shot dead close to an improvised patrol vehicle, which was set ablaze by the gunmen.

Residents said the gunmen invaded their prime target’s residence after attacking security formation and went into the town unchallenged.

They said the latest incident occurred less than three months after one Kabiru Taura, a businessman, was also kidnapped and freed after he reportedly paid over N20 million ransom.

Residents fear that the security situation might deteriorate in Jigawa State, a relatively peaceful state in the Northwest region, if the needed action is not put in place.
