The Guardian gathered that the hoodlums armed with pump-action guns and machetes attacked the truck at a roadblock.
An eyewitness, Johnson Okafor, said that the attackers, who mounted a roadblock with logs of woods, forcefully ordered the truck driver to alight from the vehicle. They also conducted searches on every vehicle playing the route.
“When the cement truck driver got to the place, they stopped the truck, dragged him and his boy down, and beat them up.
“After I left the scene, I later heard that the attackers killed the driver and his conductor. I didn’t ply the route again out of fear,” he explained.
Another witness said the attackers set the truck on fire, after killing the driver and his boy.
According to the witness, the truck loaded with bags of cement was razed down, before the attackers fled the scene.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state’s Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bright Edafe, however, said: “only one life was lost during the attack on the cement truck.”
