Gunmen murder cleric, injure wife in Plateau

Gunmen have murdered a 65-year-old Reverend, Mimang Lekyil, in the Kwakas area of Mushere District in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, just as his wife was injured during an attack on their home.

The couple was attacked at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. The victims were reportedly targeted inside their residence.

Lekyil’s wife was rushed to Dung Clinic for medical treatment, while the cleric’s remains were deposited at Luna Hospital Morgue in Bokkos for autopsy.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Adesina, said that a manhunt for the arrest of the perpetrators of the crime has commenced.

He stated, “Those responsible for this would be made to face justice as the Plateau State Police Command would not leave any stone unturned in the bid to ensure that the perpetrators face the law.”

He added that the command urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to restore peace in the area.

According to him, the Plateau State Police Command has launched an investigation and vowed to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
