The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will unveil the manifesto of its governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on Friday, October 30.
Director-General of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, disclosed this at a briefing held at the campaign office in Ikeja, Lagos.
Obanikoro said the manifesto launch would provide an opportunity for Hamzat to present his vision, priorities and plans for the continued development of Lagos State.
The event is scheduled to hold at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, between 3pm and 5pm, with arrivals beginning at 11am.
According to Obanikoro, the campaign is anchored on continued shared progress and inclusivity, with a commitment to sustaining existing development initiatives while addressing outstanding challenges across the state.
He said the campaign would focus on building on the achievements of successive administrations while ensuring that the needs of residents across different communities and social groups were reflected in the state’s development agenda.
“Continuity is not about doing things the same way simply because they have been done before. It is about protecting what works, correcting what needs improvement and building on existing progress,” he said.
Obanikoro noted that Lagos had recorded progress in infrastructure, transportation, education, healthcare, creative economy, urban development and economic growth under successive administrations, beginning with that of President Bola Tinubu when he was governor.
He also cited the administrations of former governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, as well as the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as having contributed to the state’s development.
He said Hamzat, who currently serves as deputy governor, would draw on his experience in government to sustain existing projects, tackle unresolved challenges and improve public services.
Highlighting the candidate’s background, Obanikoro said Hamzat obtained a PhD in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University, England, at the age of 28, and previously worked with international financial institutions, including Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and Citibank in the United States.
He added that Hamzat’s private-sector experience, combined with his service as a three-time commissioner and deputy governor, had given him exposure to both business management and public administration.
The campaign director-general said Lagos, with an estimated population of about 25 million people and limited landmass, faced growing demands in transportation, housing, infrastructure, security, healthcare, human capital development and environmental management.
He stressed that addressing these challenges required careful planning, experienced leadership and practical solutions capable of responding to the needs of a rapidly growing population.
Obanikoro also disclosed that the candidate and the campaign council had held consultations with religious leaders, traditional rulers, market women, traders, young people, professionals, artisans, community leaders and other stakeholders across the state.
He said the engagements were intended to ensure that the concerns and aspirations of residents informed the campaign’s priorities.
“These consultations are important because we believe that leadership must listen before it acts. We want the concerns of ordinary Lagosians to inform our priorities. We want a development agenda that reflects the realities of our people,” he said.
On participation in the manifesto launch, Obanikoro said the event would be strictly by invitation because of limited seating capacity at the venue.
However, he said the proceedings would be broadcast live on Channels Television, ARISE News, TVC, Lagos Television and News Central, as well as on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, between 3pm and 5pm.
He added that arrangements would be made for the manifesto to be available for download after its presentation, allowing members of the public to study the proposals and submit feedback through the appropriate party channels.
Obanikoro said the campaign welcomed constructive comments and suggestions from Lagos residents, adding that public contributions were important to shaping a development agenda that addressed their needs.
He said the campaign’s message was centred on shared progress, inclusivity and continuity in the development of Lagos State.
