Honour for Daily Trust chairman, PPDC, others
The Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) would next week honour some distinguished individuals and organisations for their contributions to the journalism profession.
Among those to be honoured are the Chairman and Executive Director of Trust Media Limited, Kabiru Abdullahi Yusuf and a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC).
While Yusuf would be honoured with a Lifetime Award for Journalistic Excellence, PPDC would get the Anti-corruption Defender Award.
A statement by the WSCIJ’s coordinator, Mrs. Motunrayo Alaka, said Yusuf was selected because of his commitment to media excellence.
The professional operations of Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust, Weekly Trust, Sunday Trust and the Hausa-language Aminiya newspapers, as well as the company’s new pan-African magazine, Kilimanjaro, influenced his selection.
Alaka said PPDC would be honoured for its “decades-long
advocacy for an open society, especially its laudable work in ensuring an open procurement system in Nigeria.”
The PPDC was established to increase the participation of citizens in governance to develop veracity in both the public and private sectors.
Alaka explained that the winning stories for the award were shortlisted from one hundred and twenty-five (125) entries, which were adjudged by selected individuals in various media fields.
“Winners would receive a cash prize along with the award plaque. They would also have an opportunity to attend an all-expense-paid international study-tour in the coming year.
“All the finalists would be given a certificate of commendation for a job well done,” she said.
The event will hold 5pm at NECA House, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
