How poor road conditions nearly killed me – Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has recounted how poor road conditions nearly claimed his life seven years ago during an evangelism programme in Osun State.
Speaking at the annual Special Holy Ghost Service of the church on Friday, Adeboye revealed that his health condition was affected so severely during the trip that he collapsed in Ilesa and was unable to continue by road.
He said he was eventually airlifted by a helicopter to the RCCG camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, but not without resistance from miscreants.
“Seven years ago, during this same programme, my body broke down completely due to the terrible road conditions. For the first time in my life, I spent Christmas Day in bed,” he told the congregation.
“The devil was certain he had finally got me. I collapsed in Ilesa, and to bring me back to the camp, we had to charter a helicopter. I was too weak to travel by road—if I had, I would not have made it.”
According to him, the bad roads made the journey extremely difficult, worsening his condition to the point that he could no longer continue by land.
A helicopter had to be chartered to bring him back to the RCCG camp, but the situation became more complicated when a group of people attempted to stop the aircraft from taking off.

“They clung to the helicopter, and in the process, one of the windows got torn,” he said. “I was too weak to travel by road—if I had, I would not have made it.”
Adeboye credited his survival to divine intervention, stating that he had an assurance that if he could just reach the camp, he would recover. Seven years later, he said, he remains grateful for being alive.
“I want you to thank God for sparing my life,” he said. “Please, praise Him for me—give Him glory, honour, and adoration!”
