HURIWA urges FG to ban Hisbah police

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged the Federal Government to disband the Hisbah police operating in the North, describing their activities as illegal.

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged the Federal Government to disband the Hisbah police operating in the North, describing their activities as illegal.

The national coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, stated yesterday that the Hisbah police function principally to enforce Islamic law.

He argued that most states of the North had one form of security apparatus or another under different names with uniformity of functions and operations of Hisbah.

According to him, the establishment clearly negates the argument in some quarters that such outfits.
