I don’t mind sacrificing my political career for equity, fairness, says Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at the weekend, said he was happy being part of those who made efforts to redraw the electoral map of Nigeria.

The governor said he was not bothered if he had to sacrifice his political career for justice, fairness and equality for the country to be restructured the way it is supposed to be.

Makinde, who stated this during an interview and phone-in programme on a radio station in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said: “I am glad to be part of those who have made efforts to redraw the electoral map of Nigeria.

“If I have to choose between my political career and doing what is right, just and equitable, I will choose to forgo my political career.”

HOWEVER, National Vice Chairman, South-West Zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Isaac Kekemeke, yesterday, debunked the report that the camps of any of the Ogun, Oyo and Lagos gubernatorial candidates are in disarray ahead of the March 11, 2023 elections.

Kekemeke’s reaction is coming on the heels of a report that the camp of the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, has begun to crumble, as some support groups of the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, have thrown their weight behind the re-election bid of Governor Seyi Makinde of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

MEANWHILE, the people of Oyo State have been charged to vote for credible candidates with quality antecedents.

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state, Michael Lana, gave the charge in a chat with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

He urged the people to vote for credible candidates who really understand them and who will faithfully touch their lives by improving the various sectors of the state.

IN another development, the Oyo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has endorsed the re-election bid of Makinde of the PDP.

The party made the announcement during a media briefing held at its state headquarters in Ibadan ahead of the March 11, 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

The party’s chairman, Sadiq Atayase, who spoke at the event, said that the decision was taken following extensive consultation with members of the party across the state’s 33 local councils.

IN another development, the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has debunked the insinuations that its leadership is giving support to a particular gubernatorial candidate.
