A member of the House of Representatives, Bamidele Salam, has described the Presidential Candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi as “a man of integrity and commitment to public good.”

Salam, a 10th National Assembly under the Accord Party and Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, made this known in a post he personally shared on his verified social media handles, on Thursday.

The lawmaker represents Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State. He is a chieftain of Osun Accord Party.

The Guardian had reported that Governor Ademola Adeleke, the leader of Accord in Osun State, had adopted President Bola Tinubu as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, urging all the structures of the party to canvass votes for the President’s re-election.

Possibly reacting to the ongoing row between Obi, a former governor in Anambra, and Chukwuma Soludo, the current governor of Anambra, over debt allegations, said one may fault Obi on “other grounds”, but stated, “you can never fault him on points of INTEGRITY and COMMITMENT to public good.”

According to Salam, if 60 percent of Nigerian politicians are like the NDC presidential flagbearer, Nigeria would be a better place to live.

The legislator, who is seeking a re-election under Accord Party, however, expressed pain that Obi would not be his choice for 2027 presidency.

When one of his followers asked him about his choice of presidential candidate for the next year poll, Salam simply responded: “waiting…”

He further lauded Obi for what he described as the NDC presidential candidate’s “unassailable record of public service and compassion for the people.”

He may, painfully, not be my choice in 2027 but he is a man I deeply love and respect for his unassailable record of public service and compassion for the people. If 60% of us, politicians are like him, Nigeria will be better.”
