Igbo leaders, under the auspices of Anya Ndigbo, yesterday, eulogised the sterling qualities of former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nduka Eya, describing him as the beacon of hope for Ndigbo.

Eya, a former commissioner in the old Anambra State served as the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti State.

Speaking when they visited him in his residence to celebrate with him on his 85th birthday, they described Eya as a strong force who had devoted his time and resources for the good of Igbo land.

President of the organisation, Chief Chris Okoye, accompanied by a former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Joe Nworgu; former Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Prof Elo Amucheazi and others saluted Eya for his doggedness and strides in ensuring unity of purpose for the Igbo.

Responding, Eya, who stated that he was overwhelmed by the visit, prayed to God to continue to make Ndigbo united.

“The problem with Igbo is that people outside use Igbo to destroy Igbo. We need to say no to those things that divide us as a people and embrace true friendship for the progress of our land,” he stated.
