The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, arrived in Benue State on Monday to tackle the persistent wave of violence in the region.
Benue has long been plagued by deadly attacks, primarily attributed to suspected herdsmen raiding communities, resulting in hundreds of deaths and abductions.
The latest assault occurred on Friday when suspected herdsmen attacked Yelewata village, killing numerous residents. In response, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Sunday, directed security agencies to take decisive action to curb the crisis and restore peace.
“I have ordered security agencies to act swiftly, apprehend those responsible for these heinous acts, and ensure they face justice,” Tinubu stated.
Following the President’s directive, IGP Egbetokun deployed additional tactical teams to Benue to halt the killings and stabilise the region.
