IGP directs CPs to fish out, dismiss policemen conniving with criminals

• To host ECOWAS police chiefs on trans-border crimes
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has directed the Commissioners of Police (CPs) nationwide to identify and dismiss policemen conniving with criminals without following any protocols.

The CP, Ekiti State Command, Asuquo Amba, who disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti yesterday when parading some criminal suspects, said the IGP had also directed the various commands to restrategise in the war against criminals.

“We are at the process of identifying policemen who are allegedly conniving with criminals. The IGP has asked us to search inward and fish out the bad eggs within the Force and dismiss them without going through protocols.

“The IGP directed us to restrategise and take the battle to the criminals. Elections are over and those used as thugs continue to unleash mayhem on innocent people.

“In furtherance of the meeting with the IGP, we have step up action. We don’t want to wait until the commission of a crime before we apprehend criminals. We are taking the battle to them.”

However, the command has paraded eight suspected notorious criminal syndicate who were involved in murder, cultism and attempted armed robbery in the state.

Amba said that his men were able to arrest one Jimoh Ibrahim Suleiman Mukaila, a.k.a “M.K”, a member of the supreme “Eiye” Confraternity secret cult group in Ado-Ekiti, who was allegedly involved in the killing of one 26-year-old Sheu Oluwaseun, who was shot dead in front of a beer parlour in Idolofin area of the state capital.

He said that in another robbery case on March 28, 2019, one Fadairo Samuel Oyindamola, a robbery suspect, was arrested in the state capital when his gang members attacked a victim at a barbing saloon and robbed him of five mobile phones and other valuables.

Meanwhile, as part of ongoing efforts at galvanising multinational efforts towards finding a lasting solution to transnational crimes, especially terrorism, violent extremism, kidnapping, illicit circulation of small arms and light weapons, human trafficking, maritime security, herders and farmers’ conflict, among others, the IGP will be hosting West African Police and Security Chiefs between May 14 and 16, 2019 under the auspices of WAPCCO in Abuja.

The event, which will have in attendance the INTERPOL Secretary-General, representatives of African Union Mechanism for Police Co-operation (AFRIPOL), members of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in South Africa and representatives from Committee of Chiefs of Police from Central Africa, among other key security stakeholders, will present very importantly an opportunity for all security chiefs across West Africa to re- commit themselves to collaborate more effectively towards tackling trans-border crimes and other regional security threats in an increasingly globalised world.
