The political rift between Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, has taken a new dimension as the latter claimed that the Police Force Headquarters had restored his security details.

In a statement made available to journalists in Akure yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Babatope Okeowo, Ajayi said that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) had ordered the Ondo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Bolaji Salami, to restore his security details with immediate effect.

The deputy governor, who accused the CP of working on the instructions of Akeredolu to withdraw the officers, said that the plan by the governor to use 19 out of the 23 APC members of the state House of Assembly to impeach him had suffered a setback.

According to him, majority of the Assembly members resolved to discard financial inducement and uphold the sanctity of the hallowed chamber. He said: “The meeting scheduled to hold by 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at the Government House Ground did not yield the desired results as only nine members showed interest to attend.”

He urged the lawmakers to also shun another plan to move the next meeting of the impeachment plot to a private hotel in Ijapo area of Akure, the state capital. But the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Segun Ajiboye, refuted the allegations, describing it as “another lie. We deliberately allowed the additional lies in respect of the ‘reinstated’ security of Agboola Ajayi to fly.”

Ajiboye said: “Let’s know better who this character is. He applied for six policemen instead of the statutory eight for a deputy governor on June 10, 2020 and the IGP approved via letter No: CB0900/DOPS/ FHQ/ABJ/VOL/60/263 dated same June 10, 2020.

“It goes to show that none of his security details was withdrawn as he made the innocent public to believe.”IN another development, one of the aggrieved chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, yesterday escaped being suspended for anti-party conduct.

His Ugele/Arogun Ward in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Council, after an emergency meeting, unanimously passed a vote of confidence on him, claiming that the trained physician had done nothing to warrant any form of punishment from the party.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, has expressed optimism that the party would defeat the ruling APC in this year’s governorship election.

Jegede, who spoke with The Guardian at the weekend, said the internal crisis in the APC and the number of aspirants contesting the governorship ticket with Akeredolu was a clear indication of vote of no confidence passed on his administration not only by the APC members but also by the majority of residents of the state.
