Diaspora Ijaw community in the United States of America has commended the Federal Government approach towards ending hostilities in the Niger Delta between the Niger Delta Avengers and the Nigerian military.

They lauded the Federal Government’s move to address the renewed insurgency in the Niger Delta through dialogue.

Describing the step as instrumental to ending restiveness in the region, the Diaspora Ijaws noted that military option and other violent approach was no solution to the Niger Delta problem.

In a statement yesterday after allegedly consulting with other Diaspora Ijaw groups, they noted that the nation had gone through the dialogue process before and urged government to be sincere this time to avoid the missteps of the past.

The coordinator of the Diaspora Ijaws in the U.S, Dr David Ugula, stressed that the Niger Delta struggle is centred on the people “who had been crushed physically, economically and psychologically by past and continuing neglect.”
