Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has appointed transition chairmen and deputies for the 17 local councils of Abia State.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has appointed transition chairmen and deputies for the 17 local councils of Abia State.

The announcement was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, issued yesterday in Umuahia.

The bulk of the beneficiaries were those dissolved two days to the governor’s inauguration for a second term in office after serving out their statutory three-month stewardship.

One of the dissolved chairmen and former boss of Umuahia South Local Council, Chris Ezem, was last week appointed and sworn into office by Ikpeazu as Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The state Local Government Law provides for appointment of unelected persons to run the councils for three months in the first instance subject to re-appointment for same period upon recommendation by the governor and ratification by the House of Assembly.
