Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has said that he remains committed to keeping his pact with the people of the state, which is to transform lives and promote virtues that could uplift infrastructure to the benefit of the people.
Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, yesterday, the governor stated that by the grace of God and with availability of resources, he would leave a state that would more united, more prosperous and peaceful.
He also reiterated that he would enthrone fairness, justice and equity in all segments of the state.
Ugwuanyi pointed out that his administration has embarked on several infrastructure projects across the state with the commitment to complete them, saying they were aimed at promoting unity and peace among the people.
His words: “There are many ongoing projects that I initiated that must be completed before we leave office. We started building the first ever flyover in the state at the Nike Lake T-junction. The idea is to reduce the traffic flow in that area based on the number of housing estates springing up there.
“There is the 200-bed ESUT teaching hospital project at Nsukka and several rural roads which are ongoing. We are interested in the security of lives and property to ensure that investors come into our state and do their businesses. We are interested in lifting our people out of poverty by creating gainful employment for them.
“There are many places where insecurity has made investment impossible. What occupies my time is what could be done to ensure that our people go to sleep with their two eyes closed. It gives me joy that investments made in ensuring peace are yielding results.
“What we need more as a people is proving an environment that can offer greater opportunities for anyone to thrive in his aspirations. By the grace of God, the peace and harmonious relationship that we have achieved will drive whatever aspiration anybody wants to engage in. I will continue to do my best for the people of Enugu State as long as we are here. That was the oath I took. That is the pact I have with the people.”
The governor said he would not want to be drawn into any arrangement that could derail his administration from achieving its set goals, adding that a peaceful and more united Enugu State was more beneficial than one in crisis with itself.
It could be recalled that the governor has severally rebuffed pressures from certain quarters in the state to draw him into discussions on governorship zoning for 2023 general election.
