Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has renewed his administration’s commitment to addressing multidimensional poverty in Kano.
Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, gave the assurance during a North-West policy dialogue targeted at reducing poverty.
The event which was organised by UNICEF in collaboration with the European Union (EU) intended to strengthening social protection systems and innovative financing mechanisms in the region.
Garo posited that the Kano State Government is addressing poverty through access to opportunities, and healthcare, housing, education, and sustainable livelihood.
Garo said, “I wish to acknowledge the invaluable support of the European Union and UNICEF in advancing social development initiatives across Nigeria.
“Their partnership has contributed significantly to strengthening social protection frameworks, improving access to essential services, and supporting vulnerable populations.
“We deeply appreciate these efforts and look forward to expanding our collaboration.
“As leaders, we must ensure that policies discussed in forums such as this translate into tangible outcomes for our citizens.
“Our commitment should be measured not by the quality of our discussions alone, but by the impact of our actions on the lives of those we serve”. He noted.
He added that “I therefore call upon all stakeholders represented here today to strengthen partnerships, share best practices, leverage innovation, and mobilize the resources necessary to build inclusive and sustainable social protection systems throughout the North-West region and beyond.
“Together, we can create a future where every child has access to quality education, every family can access healthcare, every young person has opportunities for productive employment, and every vulnerable citizen can live with dignity and hope.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Kano State, I thank the European Union, UNICEF, development partners, and all participants for their dedication to this noble cause.”
The dialogue brought together development partners including the European Union, UNICEF, policymakers, European members of diplomatic communities Union, and religions leaders.
