The Chief Whip of Imo State House of Assembly and member representing Nkwerre State Constituency, Obinna Okwara, has described the recent verbal attacks on the Speaker, Paul Emeziem, as cheap and baseless.

Okwara stated this while reacting to a statement issued by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House led by the Minority Leader, Anyadike Nwosu, wherein they accused the Speaker of being incompetent to preside over the affairs of the Assembly.

It would be recalled that at a press conference held recently by the PDP lawmakers, Emeziem was also accused of acting the script of the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, targeted at hoodwinking them into joining APC and silencing the opposition’s voices.

But Okwara insisted that, against the insinuations, propaganda, falsehoods and allegations being paddled against the Speaker by the PDP lawmakers, “Emeziem has remained outstanding in his duty and has done his best in the overall interest of the House and Imo State at large.”

He said: “He has been very articulate, humbly, accessible, and above all, dedicated to effective service delivery. His leadership dexterity and all-embracing nature is uncommon and commendable.

“He is one Speaker who has remained transparent, open-minded, impartial and tolerant in his dealings with his colleagues and has shown genuine concern over the general welfare of everybody in the House.

“While it is common that anyone who feels aggrieved over certain House decisions as the case of the recent suspension will cry foul, it is also moral for them to do so by telling the public the truth.

“Peddling lies and leveling unwholesome allegations against the Speaker is cheap and baseless because anybody who goes to equity must go with a clean hand. So, I will advise them, especially those who have resorted to misleading the people with lies, to desist henceforth and face the reality.

“As far as I am concerned, they all know the truth and also know the right thing to do. Lying to the public or calling the governor or the Speaker names will not solve any problem.”

MEANWHILE, the Imo State Chapter of the PDP has said that it is still in the Supreme Court contesting the declaration of Uzodimma as governor of the state.

This was contained in a statement, yesterday, signed by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Ogu Bundu Nwadike, notifying the public of the case.
